Come, O Creator Spirit blest!
And in our souls take up Thy rest:
Come, with Thy grace and heavenly aid,
To fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is that sacrament by which, through the laying on of hands, the anointing with chrism, and through prayer, the baptized are strengthened by the Holy Spirit in order to profess and defend the faith and live up to it faithfully. Confirmation completes the graces of baptism and is indeed one of the three Sacraments of Initiation along with Baptism and the Holy Eucharist.
As the Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us, “Every baptized person not yet confirmed can and should receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Since Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist form a unity, it follows that "the faithful are obliged to receive this sacrament at the appropriate time," for without Confirmation and Eucharist, Baptism is certainly valid and efficacious, but Christian initiation remains incomplete.
Confirmation for Young People & Their Families
This sacramental preparation program is open to students in ninth through twelfth grade who have already been Baptized into the Catholic Church and have received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Although Confirmation can be celebrated validly at any age, it is the current practice of the Diocese of Tulsa that the Sacrament of Confirmation be conferred during the Junior year of high school, after intentional preparation. As we strive to engage and equip our youth, we are seeking to constantly improve upon the Confirmation experience. Preparation will now take place within the academic year. Be sure to register your student(s) at the beginning of the school year when our formation registration opens and that they attend regularly!
